How unfortunate.

It depends on the club. Many clubs don't do much of anything, thus necessarily making their leadership positions meaningless. And often clubs will have elections (read: random people who never come to club meetings make ill-informed choices based on the humorous value of a speech), and the president will do less for the club than people who aren't even officers.

Maybe elections are the reason most clubs don't do anything.
High school democracy is a joke.

I completely agree!

Most of the time if you start your own club ppl usually accept you as leader until you choose to resign, because in their mentality it is "your" club

Just be active, and be there when the leadership is leading :P

I got selected VP of a club in my sophmore year because all the people in charge were seniors so now I'll be the VP for at least 3 years. And I went to about every meeting and competition we had.

OK so... would a club, say science club, be an opportunity to start something big? And would this tactic that my friend said 2 me work: Say you are in math club. The officer positions are all filled up and you really want to be VP. Although VP is taken, you still go around the club do stuff the VP does (maybe even do it better) and tell your club members that you are also VP? Would that be acceptable ?

unless you are elected vp then you aren't the vp. you'll just be doing another guys work for nothing.

*Or appointed. Some clubs have VP positions appointed because they realize that having full elections for important specialized duties is stupid.

The US Goverment realizes that and thats why all the specific fields where u need real knowledge of the subject are NEVER EVER Elected, and ALWAYS appointed. (The entire cabinet and secretaries and CIA and FBI and all the important functions of goverment)

yea it usually depends on the club
in the clubs im in, u just wait until elections roll around then nominate urself or have someone nominate u and u just try to convince the people in teh club that ur a capable leader

Well, here's my case. I wasn't elected VP, but the teacher appointed me VP. Would that count???
