How do you guys get leadership positions?

For Student Government, I ran uncontested for class president freshman year. This year (sophomore), the other person that was running against me for class president ruined her rep when she backstabbed a few people when she was running for Homecoming Princess last year. Plus, everyone is like “It’s Evan, of course he’s best for the job!”

For HOSA, I got picked for chapter president because of my grades and dedication to health sciences. Plus, the advisor is trying to have me get on the State Council by my senior year.

For PTSA, I was somewhat indirectly forced/chosen/appointed into it because I was the only person who was left from last year who hadn’t served in a leadership capacity yet.

at my school, only the popular girls care about leaadership positions. No guys ran for student coucil anything this year (I would have, and I would have smoked them, but I didnt sign up in time and missed the mandatory meeting)

My suggestion would be to take a smaller or newer club at your school where competition isnt so stiff. FBLA isnt very big at my school, and I decided to run for President so we could actually do something this year

Just make up fake leadership positions on your apps; a lot of people do that.

No need to go through all this bullshet

A good way is to start your own club. I’ve ran for 3 positions in 3 dif clubs, and obtained one because I’m the most enthusiastic member in the club. If you aren’t the most popular kid at school, your chances are shot for class office. Executive boards are great because they’re appointed by the club sponsors. I mean, I’m decently popular, and friends with all the gifted kids, but in a graduating class of 600, that’s hardly a sixth of the voters. No one votes for someone on if they’re qualified if they know one person running :frowning: I’d say get reallyyyyy involved with all the clubs, show how great you are, especially with the smaller clubs, and then people will vote for you. But honestly, creating your own club is the best, easiest way.

The more active you are in the club,the better your chances are. Things like that take years of preparation/dedication.This sounds like a lot, but if your really into the club then you wouldn’t have noticed.

Or you could start your own club.

@theeboy3 - That’s the worst advice I’ve ever heard.

@julieannab Making a club isn’t that easy.

@TechnoMusic Well its my Junior year and I need leadership positions

yeah, popularity. >:( oh well. you don’t NEED leadership positions to have good, or even great, ECs.

Well I do :/

Well just an update guys…I won

Well, I tried looking for positions out of ASB/Student Council. These included various clubs I was passionate about as well as some well knownprograms that my teachers encouraged me to join. From there, I worked my way up from a careful observer/member. It’s not exactly too challenging if you have the patience to keep looking. ^^Power to OP for running for speech team captain.

Congrats ZombieDante!!!

so today I lost the race for Prez of Science Club, because a charismatic black guy isnt very appealing to ultra conservative nerdy awkward freshman girls. I was more qualified, and it was obvious, but I guess they thought I was some popular kid invading their turf. Oh well, there’s always FBLA (where the faculty sponsor picks, so I’m a shoe in).

Thanks guys
