How is life at Duquesne? Is it a commuter atmosphere? Do you feel sequestered on the campus in the middle of a not-so-nice area of town? How are the academics?

......bumping........

Would like to add - any music majors out there?

Hi ZappaMom! I can tell you that the music school is very good. Are you interested in teaching or performance?

My DS is looking at their jazz studies program for guitar.

I don't know about the jazz studies in particular, but Pittsburgh has a vibrant jazz community and I don't think you could go wrong. There would be lots of opportunities to listen to and play with various jazz musicians.

my friend attends Duquesne and she likes the school. she said its not in too bad an area. its easy to get around the city from where you are even without a car. she says that the teachers are helpful and the classes arent big unless its like a general science class, because everybody has to take it. the campus is easy to navigate because it is small and contained.

Thanks tennischick09! What year and major is your friend it?

I'm probably gonna end up at Duquesne next year, and I'm just wondering that even though it's a religious school, is it really religious at all? I never really go to church and I don't know..i'm just not that big on religion.

in reply to lkf725:

my friend is a freshman at duquesne and she is majoring in business management.

in reply to penny_lane:

I asked her about the whole religion thing....and she said that even though she is catholic and goes to a catholic school she does not go to the church and the school doesnt revolve around its religion. she said that a lot of her friends arent too big on religion and they love it there.

HOPE THIS HELPS BOTH OF YOU!

Thanks for investigating tennischick, I'm really glad to hear that. I didn't wanna be stuck in some religion class when I'm kind of agnostic. I'm going to an Open House this weekend though, so I'll see it for myself. :)

What is the Open House event and do you have to pre-register? Is it for admitted seniors or can anybody go?
