How do you motivate yourself to go to class?

I am a senior and a hard working student; however, I have one class this semester that is just unbearably boring for me. Everything we do is pretty much what I learned in previous courses. I cannot pay attention to save my life. The class is entirely based on notes and the book. Her lectures have videos and things here and there but we are not tested on those. I got a C on the first exam which I am not happy with but that is because I studied her lectures and not the book, which is the primary source of the test questions.

I am doing an internship and I have a job so my time is limited. I justify not going to class by using that time to do homework or run errands. I am even paying for own my education and I recognize that not going to class isn't beneficial in any way or form but I just can't seem to motivate myself to go. Any suggestions? I have been attending all my other classes and doing my work on time, its just this one class that gets me.

Oh and just to add attendance is never taken and its a 500+ lecture course so no one notices if you are not there.

so then don’t go and study the book? I don’t see the problem here.

I tell myself since i’m paying, i’m not sick, and that there is no issue at the moment, that i should go.

I generally go to class but instead of paying attention to the prof, I make really long to-do lists and work on assignments from other classes. This way in case the prof says something important i.e. “this is on the test” I still have a chance of hearing it, but then also didn’t completely waste my time because I was somewhat productive doing other things

I just think of my bank account balance before and after I’ve paid my tuition and bought textbooks. It’s the only reason I’m sitting in ochem now waiting for class (and writing a paper for another class)
Tbh, I’ve found Khan Academy more helpful than some classes and will use that to supplement actually going to classes where attendance isn’t mandatory and there isn’t an exam coming up.

Weigh the benefits of the extra time against the possible damage to your grade. If the former outweighs the latter, don’t go.

Go, why waste the money. You payed for it.

Not going to class is like buying food, and waiting for it to spoil. Pointless and wasteful.

OCD about missing something important.

You have to figure out if you don’t need any notes from the class. If you are going to miss something by not going then you have to go. There is no question about it. It is just like life, there are going to be plenty of situations where you have to be somewhere that you really don’t want to be.

If possible take care of some other business while you are there at the lectures. That way you can keep half an ear out for any specific info that you need while doing something else. If you can multitask that way it will make it less boring. The worst thing about boring classes is that sometimes you can fall asleep, that is embarrassing.

If you can, without a doubt, get absolutely all the info that you need from the book, then just use the book. It seems like you will not know for sure until you have gone through the whole class. You really don’t want to blow your GPA because you find a class boring as a senior.

Fear of failing & attendance penalties. Maybe this just goes for my lame college, but at mine you get dropped from classes or start to lose points if you miss class a certain amount of times. It’s very high school.
