Should one sign their name or a random name? Also, what are some good salutations and endings?

Either/or is fine. Salutations: Querido __, Hola, Estimado . Endings: Sinceramente, tu amigo, besos.

respetuosamente is the best imo

Either your name or a random name (be sure gender agreement is there).

Salutations: I would caution against using “querido/querida” because it denotes familiarity and the email is formal. I recommend “Muy Estimada Sr/Sra ____:”, and always remember to use the colon instead of the comma after the salutation because that’s just how they do it in Spanish speaking countries.

Ending: Okay, I’m guessing the other poster doesn’t know it’s formal. Anything like “cordialmente,” or something in that vein is good.

Obviously take your cue from the prompt, but at least for the last two years, formal address would have been inappropriate.
