My ds is freshman. He is taking 16 credits. Five 3 credit classes and one 1 credit class. I do not know how to calculate his midterm gpa because the 1 credit class I don’t think has the same weight as the 3 credit classes. Can anyone tell how to calculate in a 1 credit class?

I assume you weight based on the hours. Simple example - if you have 3 classes - 2 three hours and a 1 hour and you have a B and a C in the 3 hour classes and an A in the one hour you would have a GPA of 2.71 (3 hr B class = 9, 3 hr C class = 6 and 1 hr A class = 4. Total points 19 divided by 7 hours = 2.71).

Yes, it is weighted by credit hours. Here’s a link to UA’s GPA calculator: [University of Alabama Early College](http://uaearlycollege.ua.edu/calculator.html)

What would you do if he took four 3-credit classes and one 4-credit class?

See the table below. Multiply the number associated with the relevant letter grade by the number of credits for the course. That gives you what UA calls the “quality points” for that course. Add up the quality points for all courses and divide the sum by the number of courses and voila! You have your GPA. Or just plug the letter grade and number of credits into the GPA calculator (see link in my previous post) and let the computer do the work for you. :)

A+ = 4.33
A = 4.00
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.33
B = 3.00
B- = 2.67
C+ = 2.33
C = 2.00
C- = 1.67
D+ = 1.33
D = 1.00
D- = 0.67
F = 0.00

Thank you! My DS just pointed out to me that degree works also has a gpa calculator. Thanks again!

I tried to figure out degree works GPA calculator, but it did not work for me. I think it was user error though.

I hit the term calculator and all my DS classes come up and you input the grades and hit calculate.
