How does Baton Rouge as a city lean politically?

I'm interested in going into politics and LSU, I was wondering if I,as a Liberal, would have job opportunities in Baton Rouge?

I mean could I potentially run for office, and get elected later down the road?

I hate to break the news, but Baton Rouge leans pretty far to the right, but that doesn’t mean liberals are bigoted or anything… Bobby Jindal, the govenor, is a pretty conservative guy.

…it’s Louisiana dude. Most parishes are very conservative, though New Orleans, especially the French Quarter, is pretty liberal.

So If I went to LSU I’d be well advised to move before starting my career (in politics, which is the only reason I’m even concerned)?

IDK…you’ve heard the Winston Churchill saying, right? You might not be a liberal 5-10 years from now.

But if you’re a flaming, anti-second amendment, Nancy Pelosi liberal…yea don’t expect to get elected anywhere in Louisiana, except in New Orleans.

For the record, I’m extremely liberal and I go to LSU. Baton Rouge is a moderately conservative town. Sometimes it votes democrat because it has a high proportion of black people, but those democrats are fairly conservative.

Basically, if you’re looking to get into the policy making side of politics, you’ll be okay. If you’re looking into becoming a public office holder, Louisiana may not be the best of places.

Hardly anyone can get into a public office right out of college anyway though.

Edit: faculty is mostly liberal, at least when they show their political leanings, and they’re usually very subtle, but they’re definitely libearl.

If you want to do political communication rather than political science, there are more liberal people in that department. You’ll probably have to go to Washington to really get into politics anyway, not stay in Louisiana.
