How does Cal Grant and financial aid work for UCs?

@shishand80 based on your grant, I guess you and I have the same income bracket. So here how I found out the difference on the amount grant: my UCLA fa package gives me 25.5k while UCD only offers nearly 18k. I was confused where there such difference then I figured out on UCLA my status is “on campus” while at ucd my status was “off campus”. After contacting ucd fa office, they adjust my grant total to 26k. Now ucb gives me 25k too, so I figure out the amount would basically the same. There are only couple hundreds difference.

If you choose off housing campus, expect your grant will decrease within 4-6k.
The only I couldn’t figure out is eop program, which provides cheap housing (around 5k). I’m not sure the grant will be calculate, but I think they would do bc uc won’t let us use such big extra. I’ll have to check w the fa office when visiting the campus. The only extra money you can get is school/outside scholarship. If you have same income as mine, you would be invited to apply for millet scholarship. Do you have it show on your app? Do you get email from eop ?

I think I read somewhere saying wada is considered to be on campus but I’m not sure, really needs to confirm over it.

@bizmlover im assuming millet was a type and u meant miller, and in that case yes i did get that as well, along with EOP. havent really got into the details of them yet, but let either way if EOP offers cheaper housing, i dont think our net cost is going to go down any further

@bizmlover also, wada is considered off as well, see here: http://housing2.berkeley.edu/wada
on the right it says * Off-campus for Financial Aid budgets
what is good about this anyways, it says double occupancy bedrooms.

No net cost would definitely go down if we get coapp housing, which is around 5k comparing to Wada (8k), the cheapest among all options, if I’m not wrong. I think about wada bc I heard many engineering/science majors live there. You can also cook for yourself, which reduces the cost as well. Either way, you’re mostly cover if you use aid wisely. For sure extra budget would be available like it is with cc.
And yes, I meant miller.

@bizmlover i still think it wouldnt work out much differently for us since if we live off campus, we lose 4-6k of our aids, so im not sure where you would say the net cost would go down.
