How does college work?

After graduating from HS and say you want to pursue a Business Major

I am enrolled in Rutgers

So after HS i go to Rutgers (which is undergrad) and then after completing how many years do i go on to grad school?

Generally people spend 4-5 years in undergrad, completing a Bachelor's Degree. After that, they may work for a few years before applying for grad school, while others apply during their last year of undergrad.

Most MBA programs want you to have a few years of work experience. So, 4 years for a Bachelor's, and then 2-3 years of work, then maybe 2 years for an MBA (2 years at most, IIRC).

There are many types of graduate and professional skills. Graduate schools typically include master's programs and Ph.D programs in almost any academic field. But you don't need one of those. Professional schools include medical school, law school, business school, dentistry school, etc, and are tailored to prepare you for one particular industry. In your case, you would be interested in business school, which awards an MBA, a Master of Business Administration, after (typically) two years. However, in business, an MBA is usually used to advance your career - not begin it - so you would begin working out of college (Rutgers) and then, only if you need it, get an MBA. I placed that part in italics to emphasize that you shouldn't plan to go to business school right now. The option will be made known to you when it is appropriate, which may be when your boss (or boss's boss or someone) wants to promote you to a management position within your firm.
