How does financial aid affect admissions?

I am specifically wondering about the effect of FA on admission at Williams College and other top LAC's.

Do these schools actually reject students for FA reasons?

Let's create a hypothetical family:

2 Married Parents: Combined income US$300.0-350.0k
Occupation: Physicians^
Ethnicity: both immigrants from Poland

3 Children, 1 over 18
Schooling: All private

Remember, Drs. pay high insurance.

Would this hypothetical family get any FA if they demonstrated need?
Would they be more likely to be rejected from EA in they applied for FA?

1 more...

What if the applicant was a recruited athlete?

really?
I’ll move this thread.

Williams does not give athletic scholarships, just need based aid. It’s highly unlikely a family making $300K would get any aid. Just how high is the insurance? It would have to be half their income to maybe get a small amount.

If you need aid on that income and can get into Williams, you can get merit aid at many schools. They won’t be in the league of Williams though, they’ll be schools where you’d be a very top student. See the stickies on the financial aid board for specific schools.

If you can get recruited for a sport, look at schools that offer sports scholarships.
