Does anyone have experience with this? Once a NM finalist selects Vanderbilt as their first choice school, how is financial aid affected given that there is some work study and some grants?

Yes, I e-mailed fin aid to ask. For us the $2500 work-study would disappear, the need based grant would be decreased by $1300, and the $5000 NMF scholarship added. So we would come out ahead, but not by $5,000, only by about $3700, not counting the work-study, which doesn’t count as free aid. Yours may be different, you should e-mail or call and ask. They replied within a day.

Thank you. Did you email directly or send an email from your student’s email? I emailed them from my email (parent) but haven’t heard back yet. I was wondering if they might not reply to me.

I used my e-mail, but worded it as though I was the student just in case, haven’t done the FERPA release with them. They responded to my e-mail, and just checked- it was same day response.
