Was wondering if a extremely average student like myself in terms of grades can get into Hunter College.
Here’s a breakdown:
SAT Superscore: 1660
Took one in June & Dec
June=1520 and Dec=1580
GPA: 3.57, 89.25 on transcript
And Regents which I dread the most
87- Eng
83- Living Environment
81- Algebra
77- Global
74- U.S
Working on Geo, Trig and Earth Sci
So guys be totally honest, what are my chances?
For the most part, based on what I’ve heard, many of the CUNYS only care about numbers(e.g. Test scores and GPA). Some of them do accept college essays, and some of them may read them(e.g.Hunter and a few others),based on what I’ve heard. However on their college board page, they list Academic GPA,rigor of secondary school record, standardized test scores as very important,in fact there is no mention of ec’s,etc.(the things that make you more than just a paper full of numbers, which I personally don’t like). Thus,I believe is the reason their student body is so large because they base acceptances for the most part on numbers.Anyways, onwards to the main point: make sure your test scores(SAT CR and M,they do not consider your writing score)and GPA are more or less good. Based off of this link:https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/city-university-of-new-york-hunter-college
Their average SAT score is:1165(CR+M).CR:570 and M:595. However, based on their website ( https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/city-university-of-new-york-hunter-college )they claim the average SAT score of their most recent class was a 1205,so I guess to be competitive or have a strong chance of getting in your scores should be within that range(1165-1205),which is like a 1185.Their average GPA,based on the aforementioned website is an 88.9. So basically if your at the average of these things then you have a pretty good shot. However,if you fall short in one category(standardized test scores) I believe if your above average in another category(GPA) you can still have a pretty good chance of getting in. Also, even if you are below average I encourage you to still apply if you really want to go there. On that college board link I gave you it shows the score ranges for CR and M and the lowest for each was a 520(CR) and 540(M) and in addition I’m sure they make acceptions(e.g. The Seek Program). So apply! Also,in case you’re worried you might not be competitive or not you should apply through the SEEK program(http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/seek )I don’t know much about it,but my sister is a part of it(at Brooklyn College) and it seems like a great opportunity, assuming you meet their requirements. However,I’m not sure when the deadline for that is,so you should look into it if you’re interested. I think your chances are pretty good you meet Hunter’s average GPA however with test scores I’m not sure because I’m not sure if you listed it as CR+M or CR+M+W. If it is CR+M that is a ways awesome score and you should have applied earlier in the school year for the Macaulay Honors Program and you are basically guaranteed admission and I hope you also applied to even more competitive schools. If that is CR+M+W I can’t be too sure because it really matters on what your CR+M is.Be mindful that Hunter College’s application deadline is February 1st. Good luck with all your college applications/decisions.
Also, are you a senior? And sorry for responding so late,I hope this was still helpful. Or at least helpful for anyone else.
Yes I am a Senior and thank you for the reply, really appreciate it.
My highest score for the Math on the SAT was 500, whereas CR was 580, not great ik but I’m an extremely bad test taker.
@ProgressTigress you’re welcome! I’m actually a senior too and applied to Hunter. I haven’t heard back yet,but I think it should be soon.Sorry for responding so late, I took like a 2 week hiatus from this website And in regards to your scores, they’re not that bad.
Hey, I have around the same grades as you.
550- cr
520- math
88 gpa
Ive been so anxious (hence the username), to find out my status! When I called them & asked, they said they’ll give out the first group of acceptances by the end of March, which is ridiculously late! I really want to get into Hunter & hope you guys too!
Thanks I ended up getting in(it was probably reinforced by your magical encouragement, lol). You really do not have anything to be stressed out about,I think it is likely that you will get in. If not, that is obviously their loss.
Congrats!! Hahaha Im glad my magical encouragement gave you strength. If you dont mind me asking, what were your stats?? @Tookme10mins
no problem.SAT 1180(CR+M,… Yeah I know not the best) gpa:3.9. hooe that was helpful!
