How Does One Write A Research Paper?

Hi,

I'm homeschooled, and I've just finished a mostly independent programming project that was around college-level. Some parts of it were fairly innovative, so I want to write a paper on this. How do I structure it? And does it have to be published or something in order for me to send it to colleges as supplementary material?

Also, towards the end, my code refused to work: I had to ask some of the professors at my local university for help (without which I wouldn't have been able to finish this), and they helped me correct my code, as well as give me some ideas which led to the "innovative" parts of my project. How do I mention this in the paper?

Finally, how do I cite any websites I used, which others had posted details of their (non-published) research on?

Thanks ^^.

The best way to learn how to write a paper is to read a bunch of published papers. Different fields structure papers different, as do different journals within each field.

yeah, use other papers written in your field. sciencebuddies.org might also help
