How does teacher recommendation process work?

I just recently pulled up an preview commonapp application from the website and it list the page where the teacher is supposed to evaluate the student and write a recommendation (i assume). But my question is, how does it all work when i actually apply? do i print out the application and give that page to the teacher then they mail it to the college? Its a full 2 pages and half of it the applicant is supposed to fill out. also, I heard (could be wrong) that commonapp is electronic, so how do you electronically send out an application while also getting a recommendation and blah blah... Im just confused by the whole process. im a current junior, just trying to familiarize myself with it all.

You can set up an account now if you want and just click and open things to look around. In August the common app is wiped clean to start for the new year.

If your teacher and or GC only want to submit with paper, then yes you print out everything, fill in your part and provide pre stamped addressed envelopes for them to be sent.

If your school does things electronically, then everything can be sent by through the common ap.

Once you have set up your account, you go to a page called “Invite Official” unless they change that and there you will fill in info so the common ap can send emails to your GC and teachers. Then they can click on a link to get inside your application. They upload recs, transcripts, mid year report etc that will be sent to your list of schools.

You will see dates when those things are finished to know whether you need to check/remind teachers and GCs so that you get everything in before deadlines.

One more point to add to Lakemom’s post: If your teachers/GC do fill everything out electronically (and hopefully they do!), they will not see the names of the colleges to which you’ve assigned them. I was a little insecure about that, so, the more you know.

BTW, since you’re a junior, and junior-year teachers are the most valuable for recs, please make sure you have good relationships with your teachers! And ask them early in the fall of your senior year to write a rec, before they get swamped by people asking them.
