I have never fully understood. If you do an online application do you send it to your High school and they send it to your college? And also how do the rec letters work? Is there a separate form that you send to them and they send it off? Sorry, I am a little confused

No, colleges make their own applications, and you acquire a copy of one either through mail or online, then fill it out and send it to the college.

The way letters of recommendation work depends entirely on the specific school.

Have an appt with your guidance counselor who most likely can tell you what types of apps you need dependent on the type of school. Some are very easy. Some are fairly involved. Regardless, your GC probably has seen the whole spectrum and can give you guidance. They are involved anyways because every school you target will require forms from your HS via your GC.

One item is the Common Application which is a form to which multiple schools can be applied. You then usually follow up with college specific forms (i.e. a teacher rec form or an essay template) if they require something beyond the Common App’s template.

I agree, you need to speak with your counselor. Each high school has different procedures for handling teacher recommendations, counselor recommendations, transcripts, and midyear reports.
