How far will a legacy go?

Wondering how much being a "legacy" will help college admissions:

My grandfather went to Dartmouth and has donated money to the school. Though I know it probably hasn't been an enormous amount, I know he's been fairly consistent. Meanwhile, I have an B+ GPA in AP and Honors classes at a very competitive public school with strong EC's: do I have a chance of admission if I apply ED, or is the legacy connection not going to go very far?

ED would help, but don't rely on legacy, specifically grandparent legacy, to carry you through the door.

Dartmouth only gives a legacy tag to applicants who have a parent who graduated from the college. A grandparent doesn't help you.

1ofeach is correct, we established this with Sherlock, a high stats 2250 with a grandfather who had been generous to the school who was deferred ED.

yup. but go for it, apply if its your number one. But don't apply there because you think you have better chances and its a good school. I think I learned my lesson. Next time! ahahah....
