How fun is case

You’re gonna have to be more specific than that. I’ll give you a breakdown of some of aspects.

Social: I assume this is probably what you’re referring to. If you want to party, they are definitely there, but you might have to look for them. Joining a fraternity/sorority helps a LOT. It also provides a lot of other friends that you can hang with of your own accord. Otherwise, the next best thing is to have affiliated friends, which also isn’t hard. Keep in mind, though, that workload can limit free time to almost only weekends. As an engineer, I can probably go out about once per week, twice occasionally. Your dorms also provide a good sense of community, but don’t expect to sit in your dorm all day and know people.

Around campus: It’s okay, just be careful. The surrounding areas are not the safest place. Travel in groups at night. There’s a good amount of restaurants around, including a section called little Italy for, well, Italian food. And there’s a concert hall and museums to explore. Downtown Cleveland’s a half hour train ride away too. It’s just finding the time to go.

People: Most people are tolerating, open-minded, and overall, “nice.” There’s a good amount of people who are awkward and don’t do much outside of their dorms but there are definitely stereotypical partiers too. However, and maybe I’m just doing it wrong, but I’m having a hard time finding the people in between.

Extracurriculars: good selection of volunteer opportunities, interest groups, and other clubs to find your niche. The intramurals are also really good. No problem here.

Overall: if you have time, it’s pretty good (big if statement however). But nothing’s going to come to you by itself. Also, the overall atmosphere seems a bit lacking, as many groups tend to stick to themselves. You might be able to overlook that.

Sounds like the students at Case are pretty reserved.

( Sorry, couldn’t resist )

Lol DGDzDAD…took me a minute…but I guess if that’s the case, my D coming from CA, would be considered both western and reserved…

As a current Case student, I would say that a lot of students are reserved, but plenty of us are outgoing! The best thing to get involved in is extracurriculars, whether they are one of the big clubs on campus (RHA, USG, UPB, MediaBoard), a performance club, an academic club, a sport, or greek life. That will be your in to meeting people, and Case really stresses joining groups. Everyone finds their niche, it just takes some longer than others. For me, I threw myself into work so much my freshman year that I really didn’t join a club that I could stick with until my sophomore year, but when I found the right one I really rose fast and am now in several executive-type positions. Everyone finds their spot at Case, I wouldn’t be worried.

I wasn’t going to reply to this thread, but I just had to after seeing this:
“However, and maybe I’m just doing it wrong, but I’m having a hard time finding the people in between.”
This is EXACTLY what I have been trying to tell people, I am so glad someone finally understands! There are plenty of nerds, and a solid group of partiers. Almost everyone (except, of course, me) falls into one of those two groups. It can be frustrating at times.

Now, since I posted, I should answer the original question. Like I said, I’m not a partier. But most of my friends are, and they don’t seem to have any complaints about the party scene, so it must be alright. My definition of fun involves volunteering and extracurriculars. One thing that disappoints me about Case is that people don’t really seem to care that much about community service, or at least not as much as I do. But if you look off-campus, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities, especially for pre-meds (I volunteer at Cleveland Clinic weekly, and have volunteered at Hope Lodge and Ronald McDonald house also). There are plenty of clubs, and you will definitely find one that suits you.

Cleveland is kind of an underestimated city. There are lots of cool things to do in the area. I personally like the Museum of Natural History and Tower City. There are also lots of good restaurants in the area, Melt is pretty famous (I didn’t think it was that great, but I will probably get a lot of hate from other Case students for saying that haha).

Case will be what you make of it. Most people seem to love it here, so I hope you do too!
