How good are my ECs? Honest opinion!

Tutored in the Embassy of Angola (11th, 12th)
Guitar (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th)
Creative Writing Club (9th)
Journalism Club (12th)
IMUN Delegate (12th)
Drama (11th, 12th)
Tennis (11th, 12th)
Martial arts (11th, 12th)
Horse riding (11th, 12th)
Member of a national academy for gifted children/teenagers (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th)</p>

<p>Please also tell me if there any activities (from above) I should not include in my application.</p>

<p>I would omit those ECs that you only did for one year. Several other ECs seem like you are merely trying to fluff up your resume to me. Sorry…</p>

<p>They’re not, I did not have many chances to be involved in ECs in my previous years of high school because my mother was sick and I did not have much free time since I had to take care of her. I did not have time to stay after school for 2 hours and come home late. Since she is doing better now, I have more chances of being involved at school.</p>

<p>^That would be worth mentioning in the “Additional Information” section of the CA. Glad your mom is doing better.</p>

<p>I know, but the fact that she was so sick also had a severe effect on my grades, and my counselor advised me to use the Additional Information to explain that. Would it be a bad idea to explain how it affected my grades and my ability to be involved in school…does that sound like I’m making too many excuses?</p>

<p>How good are they? Depends on the type of colleges you’re applying to.</p>
