I have been working for 5 years as an iOS software engineer, I have received 3 offers about M.S. in Computer Science. There are as belows. I don’t know how to choose. Someone here give me some advices please. My only goal is getting a job from big name software companies, such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc.
1> Colorado School of Mines
2> University of Kentucky
3> New Jersey Institute of Technology
@DouglasLee
Mines, Mines, Mines.
It’s the best choice - very respected, and amazing hiring…
But…are you funded at all 3 schools? What is the funding situation?
Thank you for your reply. I am admitted by the 3 schools without any funding. Could you tell me some details about M.S. Computer Science in CSM?
@DouglasLee
No problem. CSM’s engineering school is probably the best in the Midwest, and very strong especially in areas such as Geo signal processing, and earth related CS applications. Nevertheless, if you want a good job and a strong salary, then CSM is a gem. For funding, start contacting professors in the school and seeing if they could hire you as an RA. It’s a little late now for me, and I am typing from the phone - so I will try to add more later. Are you a US citizen? That can help in getting funding. CSM is a great school and I know that the hiring and salary ranges for CS graduates and compatible with MIT and Stanford - so congrats to you!
@DouglasLee. I am from New Jersey and also familiar with Mines. Both NJIT and Mines are pretty similar but Mines has more focus on the oil and gas industry. Golden Colorado is possibly a small town but a good location, depends on your interests, you can get to light rail and downtown Denver easily. Still NJIT will have way more connections to east coast jobs. Mines, more Texas and California connections. Where do you want to live eventually? Kentucky is not as good as the other two options for CS. Newark NJ has improved a lot and you will be 20 minutes from New York City, so thats a hard choice. New York City is truly a world class city and would be fun to live there. Jobs are way way better in New York City than they are in Colorado, but the education will be solid at Mines.
I have decided to go to CSM, thank you all above friends with helpful answers!
