I'm debating between UChicago, Duke and WashU right now. I like UChicago more in just about aspect, except for their seemingly lack of focus toward the preparation for grad school (med. school in particular). I realize WashU is probably the best for that matter, but I still am really attached to Chicago...any thought would help!

Wow… I used to think that UChicago ONLY prepared you for grad school!

I’ve had several friends who’ve graduated from UChicago and gone on to terrific medical schools. There is no “Pre-med” program per se; however, any number of majors (bio, chemstry, etc), coupled with a good MCAT score, should be more than enough to get you where you want to go.

If you’re attached to UChicago, go to UChicago! The rest will work itself out.

hmm…interesting. I’ve always thought UChicago is renowned for its education rather than playing the whole GPA/test scores/grad school business. I just don’t want to seem grade conscientious compared to other students, because I’m really not. I just don’t want to end school with at the undergrad level.

Yeah, Chicago’s main purpose IS getting you into grad school, med school, et al. Chicago produces more PhDs per capita than Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

Actually, Chicago doesn’t have a good percentage of people getting into med school (though it has a VERY high percentage of people going to grad school). Getting the GPA necessary for such isn’t the easiest task in the world (though definitely not impossible). If you go to UChicago for med school, I would highly suggest you stay away from honors classes…
