I'm trying to decide if I want to rank Rice for the College Match but how good of a school is Rice compared to like Northwestern or MIT? I'm looking into engineering.

…it’s amazing
It’s like the Harvard of the South

Rice is a great school. I would think it is behind MIT and ahead of Northwestern. Any of these schools would provide a great education - the question is which one suits you the best. All three schools are near major cities with a lot to offer. Houston (hot / humid) certainly offers a different climate from Chicago or Boston.

Rice, like ALL of the QuestBridge partner schools, is a top tier institution. Their research output is great and unlike most universities, they have an undergraduate focus.

I think Rice Academics is top-tier. Definitely the Harvard of the South. Plus they have a solid sports program and focus on undergraduates.
Houston is an amazing city, but be prepared for horrendous weather. If it isn’t 100 degrees and as sticky as gum, it’s a hurricane.

Rice’s engineering program is top notch. It has a residential housing system which many students love. I believe there is a mom who posts here, CTscoutsmom, who has a son who was a finalist in QB and chose Rice over other schools. Hopefully, she will see your post and respond. I know from her posts that her son is very happy at Rice.
