How hard are the Political Science Classes?

How hard are the social science classes? And specifically, how hard are the political science classes and what's the average GPA of the students?

Does anybody have the graduation and admission rates going to law school for students who go here?

Would you recommend the political science dept and opportunities over the following schools (UCSB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSC, UCB)?

Thanks.

UCSC is dead last of the UC's for Politics. My son just graduated last Saturday with a Politics major and has told me for years about the deficiencies of its Politics department. His original academic adviser, who retired in the fall, was the last of the original faculty and happened to have been my thesis adviser. The Politics department was great 35 years ago, but is pretty bad now.

The social science classes are at best mediocre save for Economics.

The only good thing I can say about UCSC's politics department is that you will do a lot of writing, which is the #1 key to success as an attorney. You must write well. I used to recommend that those aspiring to legal careers be English majors, but that field has totally fallen apart in writing skills. Politics is now the best choice in learning to communicate in writing. If you want to go to law school and to UCSC both, by all means be a Politics major. Just don't expect to learn much about Politics.
