I recently decided to change my major to computer science, but I don’t want to take COMP 110, the prerequisite to 401. I did take AP CompSci A in high school and got an A in the class but I got a 3 on the exam (not sure if enough to exempt out?). So I do know some Java, but can anyone provide insight on how hard 401 is with limited programming knowledge?
Looks like you need a 4 or a 5 depending on which Comp Science class you took in order to place out of 110.

Just finished COMP 110 and it has actually been one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. Prof. Jordan is an awesome guy and would highly recommend the class, as 401 is highly based off of what you learned in 110. Unless you’re extremely good at Java already, I would go ahead and take 110.
I think UNC requires a 4 or 5 on most AP exams to place out of a class. I would check, but I think you would still have to take the class if you get a 3. Also, basically all sciences at UNC are difficult, so I would take 110 just in case so you can have a really solid base to build on as you continue.
