How hard is it to get into Washington University in St.Louis?

my two cents about admission here; if you don't have at least a 700 on math and Crit reading, consider this school your reach. I had all right extracurr's and 780 and 750 on SATII math and chem respectively. I thought didn't good on the essays, but was still rejected.

Do you mean rejected rejected, or waitlisted? Because they will waitlist people just for not showing interest. I only had a 690 on the critical reading and I was fine (did have a 770 on math though—don't know how I missed those 30 points ;/).

I applied ED, so showing interest wasn't an issue for me, though I did go for an interview.

xtra - You say you had 780 & 750 on the SAT II's and didn't do well on the essays -so what supports your statement about needing at least a 700 on Math & Crit Reading? Did you have less than 700 on those in addition to the above? Just curious.

oh, my bad. I Did do good on the essays. sorry. was typing late last night. my friend had a 2300-ish score .he never showed any interest but won some great extracurriculars in comp sci like ACSL nationals and HP Code Wars. and he got what Washu calls an "earlier decision" than everyone else who applied regular decision. but washu didn't give him as much aid as UT Turing honors prog., so he stuck with UT.

as for me, I got 2000 SAT score. 670 on both reading and writing. 740 on math. approximately.

I have just been accepted into undergraduate at Washu. I am valedictorian of my senior year have straight A’s since sixth grade and have taken as many AP classes as I could take and dual enrollment classes and have done numerous EC. Colleges DO NOT want well rounded students, they want lopsided students…diversity is the key to Washu…I went to Intel ISEF last year and have done research projects for 6 years. As it is a research university I think this gave me an advantage and also writing a very good application essay.

lovewashu, this thread is a year and a half old. Don’t bump old topics.

I am applying to Washington University in St. Louis as freshman.
I want to get into business school.
I am a foreign student and went to private high school in Texas for four years.
I have decent SAT (2110) - CR 660, M 800, W 650 and good GPA (98.7 out of 100).
Also, I made Art portfolio, played saxophone in band, participated in Model United Nations conferences four times, and played school soccer.
I think I’m well rounded, but I am worried that I would not get into Washington University.
Would you evaluate based on info that I posted above?

bybyjun, personally I hate chances threads.

Not a single person on this board can give you an answer (unless they’re secretly an adcom… which I highly doubt).

and lovewashu- congrats on your acceptance! But just so you know, your little anecdotal evidence doesn’t mean jack. The majority of people I’ve met here are extremely well rounded individuals who do more than just stare at their textbooks all day long.
(except for the crazy pre-meds… but even they tend to be super involved in other organizations)

^pre-med ftw.
And besides even pre-meds need their research, ECs, volunteering, and all those other wonderful things  for med school apps. In many ways, they are forced to be more well rounded.
