How Hard is Middlebury?

There are few colleges out there where if you get a 4.0 GPA then you did well while some other colleges, the grading system is skewed so that 4.0 isn't that difficult.

Which is it for Middlebury? Also, do they do the 4.3 GPA scale to include A+s?

Thanks

I cant speak to Midd’s grade inflation - whether it exists or not. However, their grading scale is as follows: (found in the online handbook)

Numerical equivalents of grades:
A = 4.00
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.33
B = 3.00
B- = 2.67
C+ = 2.33
C = 2.00
C- = 1.67
D = 1.00
F = 0

no A+s. as for grade inflation, as far as i’m concerned i think it definitely exists in some departments, such as film and media culture, literature and arts, whereas other departments are normal or even “deflationary,” such as sciences, econ or polisci.
overall, though, everyone works pretty hard, so i’d say middlebury is a hard college.

Be prepared to work incredibly hard in the sciences and math in particular and be thrilled with an A- or B+ at best. Labs can take a huge amount of time outside the lab for no extra credit. All courses are equal in value even if the labs take almost as much time as another course. You will learn an amazing amount but grade deflation is a problem esp. when you compare your courses and grades to those of your friends taking the same courses at your state school.
