How Heavy Do the Essays Weight in the Scholarship Process?

<p>So looking at the selection criteria for scholarships, committees judge on academic mert, creative accomplishment, financial need, diversity of background, unusual force of character, community service & leadership.</p>

<p>Wouldn't most of these be evaluated through the transcripts & "profile" (where you can list your activities, honors/awards, etc) alone? How do the essays play a role in the selection processs?</p>
