How I raised my SAT score by 790 points-My story

Great story! Thanks for posting

“Many of my friends scored higher than me”

SAT CR tip #1:

That should say, “Many of my friends scored higher than I”

Good job @Spuding102, and congratulations @mdt1995!

@‌MaynardGKrebs
Actually, it should say, “Many of my friends scored higher than I did.”

@strawberry3 yep I agree. Many of my friends scored higher than what I scored not than me!

Congratulations bro! You’re an inspiration for me! This guide will get me set onto the right path. I also had a 1500 freshman year, mostly due to the fact I didn’t study. Now, due to Algebra 2 review and school in general, I have a 1900 (760M, 600W, 630CR) as a freshman. Hopefully, your guide will get me to the top tier. Thanks so much for posting this, I am forever indebted to you. :)

Also, where did you get the 19 Math practice tests?

I was able to get about 30 fresh tests through the blue book, the online course, and available PSATs I found online, the rest of the tests that I got I found online through some searching for previously administered tests. You should be able to find them with enough looking. I then re did the blue book at the end once I forgot the tests

@tipsywee Continue working hard it will be worth it in the end. In my elementary school I was ranked 140/180. Its not about how smart you are. Some people start ahead of others but anybody can get to any point on that imaginary line with enough work. For some, it takes more work than for others but it can be done. Good luck with your studies!

@mdt1995 - Congrats on your great results and I think you made an extremely smart choice to avoid the debt. You will be very grateful for that decision when you are out of school and starting your professional (and independent personal) life. The math portion of your SAT must have been lopsidedly high, I am guessing?

“Many of my friends scored higher than I” is acceptable because the verb “to score” is implied. You can say it either way.

Congratulations on your SAT score - well deserved! If there are any particular CC threads that you found helpful, would love to hear about them.

Is the LSAT book the Examkrackers LSAT Reading Comprehension one?

Yes that one. In terms of some other threads to look out for: Xiggi’s thread, silver turtle’s thread, the 12 essay in 12 days thread. Please let me know what you think about the LSAT CR stuff. It’s definitely harder and more nuanced but if you can do that, you will rip the SAT CR section.

My score will forever remain a 1400 whether I like it or not (I used the Collegeboard blue-book and the Princeton one, but apparently none of them seemed to improve my score). None of my reach schools accepted me, whatever. By the time I graduate I would’ve taken 12 AP classes throughout my entire high school career; I’ve attained A’s and B’s in all of them except one (AP Biology). Passed 3 AP exams with 3’S, but whatever.
I have leadership in 4 activities (Vice President of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the AP club, Student Representative of the my school’s governance council, Treasurer of the Physics Club), went to a college-preparatory program for four years during the summer (I wasted months of good sleep apparently), did three sports (humiliated myself in Track because I was horrible, but nonetheless I managed to finish all of my races), did an FYE course during the summer, and currently I have 5 AP classes (my Spring Break is not a break at all because of the work load I have).
So, in essence, all of my reach schools (5 of them) saw that I wasn’t college ready just because of my 1400. Yup, you can obviously see how well I’m handling this situation.
This exam could go ____ itself.

You’ve probably heard this before, but have you tried the ACT?

How did you find the PSAT tests on Amazon? Mind giving a link?

i first tried my SAT when i was 13 and i got no different from you my score was 1450 and this is a great advice because i was in a mental breakdown for a while huh

@IndigoMark it is a good thing you did apply to safeties and got admission. I am sure you have been given all kinds of advice regarding SAT preparation ranging from using different books, techniques, using a tutor and if are a senior its probably too late to test again. You can try those or try ACT or carry on with what your strength is.
The good thing is you are doing great in your high school AP courses and excelling in other activities also. If you can do the same in University, there will be transfer opportunities. I know they are far and few but life does not end with Bad SAT scores.

@sanwal Yeah, I’m looking at other schools to transfer to next year and I’m trying my hardest right now to prevent senioritis from overcoming me (I need to maintain those grades). Thanks for the advice.

Wow, congratulations! You exemplify great motivation; I’m extremely inspired now.
Last fall, I took the PSAT- not the official one- and I scored a 165 (which is absolutely mortifying in comparison to every other CC member). I currently have the Blue Book and with my most recent test (albeit I cheated and gave myself 5 extra minutes for a few sections…), I scored a little under a 1900.

Do you think it will be possible for me to eventually get a score of 2000+ simply by taking many practice tests from the Blue Book?
