How I should go about my college process

You are getting great advice from very experienced posters. I am not very experienced but I do have a student who just started her undergraduate college education with the hopes of one day going to medical school. One thing that stood out to me in your comment above that may need clarifying for someone not familiar with the many quality colleges and universities in the US… if your definition of “great undergraduate college” means one you are familiar with you need to broaden your perspective. There are many wonderful schools across the US that even US residents have not heard of. So when you create your new Match Me thread, be open to the suggestions.

To get into medical school you need the prerequisite classes, good GPA, service and volunteer activities and patient-facing experience. @WayOutWestMom may correct me if I’ve misstated or missed anything. But the point I am making is that there are many, many places where that can be accomplished. At this stage you need to follow WayOutWestMom’s advice to see how you can get an undergraduate education in the US.

This may help you with your Match Me thread:

Add strong MCAT score to the list of things needed for med school, but otherwise @DramaMama2021 has it right.

You don’t have attend a great undergraduate university, or even a well known one. There are over 4000 US colleges and universities. Nearly all of them offer the pre-req classes–which are largely introductory level classes.

The main difference among colleges will be the amounts and types of opportunities that they offer you. But getting into med school is about you and your achievements, not where you go to college.

Thank you! I knew I was typing too fast and missing something!!!

Thank you so much @WayOutWestMom. I will most definitely do that, but at the current, I’m preparing for my 12th finals, so I would be a bit busy for the next few weeks. But after that’s done, I will do that for sure.

That’s very true @DramaMama2021 . They have provided a lot of information that I would have never known. Thanks a bunch, @WayOutWestMom, @thumper1 , and @aunt_bea. I really appreciate your support.

That’s some very helpful info there @DramaMama2021 . I’m still new to this platform, so I need some getting used to around here. But thanks for that. It helps a lot.
