unfortunately.. i wasn't able to visit any colleges this summer due to family problems. but, since the start of school i have been able to visit colleges that are relatively close to me, which i plan to apply to. i was just wondering how important is it really for me to visit the college? i mean, i wasn't able to visit ones in nearby states over the summer so what i did was ask for information via the internet. was that enough?

It depends on the school. Do visits matter at HYP? Nope. Does visits demonstrated interest matter to a school like Columbia? Yes in fact they ask about it on their application. At smaller schools, visits or other forms of demonstrated interest does matter because they accept such a small number of students that they want students who want them.

You can demonstrate interest in a number of ways: many schools now have on line chats. If your school has one, sign up and participate. Many admissions counselors are out on regional visits, when they are in your area or at your school attend. You can request videos, etc.

Collegiate Choice sells videos of college tours for many colleges - check their website. These are not professionally produced- just a guy with a camcorder recording the tour, but you can get some good information from them.

There is also a company called Videc that offers professionally-produced videos for some colleges, mostly located in the south.
