The website says they are "strongly recommended," but I just decided to apply to Virginia and none of my other schools require them. I'd rather not study and take them at this point- I'm not even sure if I can, it may be too late- so is it possible to get in without SAT II scores?

If a school you are serious about attending states a component of the application is ‘strongly recommended’ IMO the application is incomplete without it. Absolutely students will be accepted both in EA and RD without having submitted SAT2’s. UVa uses a holistic admissions process so I’m sure if there is a student that is absolutely outstanding and would add a lot to the university community a lack of SAT2’s wouldn’t be an automatic no-go. This is my guess, I’m not an admissions representative, but I’m giving my opinion as you asked for opinions on a forum where non admission people participate.

It is certainly up to you, however I would strongly consider applying RD and taking the subject tests in December. The date has passed for regular registration but you can still register late for a fee. You have a month to brush up on whichever subjects you feel you would be strongest in. The only advantage to EA over RD is finding out sooner. Dean J has been very clear on this forum that EA and RD applications are read the same, neither is read ‘easier’ or given preference. Last year we did see a higher percentage of students admitted in EA. This is to be expected as EA applicants are generally your strongest applicants. They have their strongest, most complete application ready to go early in the season. They are not waiting on a Sr. year GPA boost, SAT/ACT retest dates, etc. If there is any part of your application that would present better by applying RD that is really your advantage.

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide!
