How important are SAT Subject Tests?

How important are the SAT Subject Tests in admissions at colleges that require them? Are they given the same weight as other tests are?

I've been only scoring in the 600s on practice tests, but my other scores and ECs are definitely on par with the college I'm taking these for (Carnegie Mellon)?

Is a 620 or so okay? Will it hurt my application?

It depends on the college, for instance:

For selective colleges, my rule of thumb is in the 700s. However, there are few absolutes in college admissions, it really has to be considered in the context of the rest of your application.

Okay, thanks.

There’s not a good chance of me getting a 700 in Bio or History…but hopefully I can do it with Math.

carnegie mellon doesn’t look that much at grades depending on what you want to study

I plan on applying to H&SS.
