How Important is it to get AP Credit?

I’m attending Boston University for Engineering and i’m taking 6 AP classes. The ones I feel are most important are psychology, calculus and statistics. But before I devote all my time to studying, I want to know exactly how important it is to get a 4+ to get credit.

Has anyone ever looked back at high school and said to themselves, “dam, I wish I put in more effort to get that ap credit”? On my open house tour, my guide said that he actually regret getting credit for psychology, because he wishes he could take it in college for an easy A. Does getting credit really save you that much money and does it really help you graduate faster, or does it just free up your schedule so that you don’t have to take too many classes your freshmen year?

I also feel like if I get credit for Calculus BC and I don’t take Calc I and II in college, when I take CAlc III I might forget everything I learned in high school and do poorly. Since calculus is so important for engineering, would it be better to just not get credit for calculus, roll through it in college to refresh your memory?

I got 32 college credits from taking AP courses, so yes, I would say it’s worth it. It lets you take more elective courses. I am graduating a semester early.

Lanoire…I am an engineering deans host and currently a sophomore. Let me say that you first off won’t get any credit for statistics in engineering. But with the other classes, specifically psych and and other social sciences get the credit! I don’t know why the Engineering Dean’s host told you that he wished he didn’t get the credit because it just opens up your schedule alto more and then you aren’t forced to take social sciences but you can take electives in anything that you really want to. It also makes it a lot easier to minor in something completely outside of engineering if you wish to do so or double major or get a dual degree. If you are worried about taking credit for Calc BC so you can always just take Calc 2 in college or BU offers an accelerated course of Calc which some of my friends took that is a refresher of both Calc 1 and Calc 2 during your first semester freshman year and they all liked it. This is the list for exactly what classes you will get credit for and with what scores throughout the university: http://www.bu.edu/admissions/files/library/media/advanced_credit_guide.pdf
