How important is religion to you?

I believe in God, but I have abandoned religion. I find God through nature.

While the bible does say the only way to heaven is through jesus, it also visciously condemns people who try to judge the fates of other peoples souls.

good call. the whole holier than thou thing is really backwards from what jesus did FIRST AND FOREMOST when he was here: love.

shore
"But if we knowingly reject Jesus, then we're worse then the former murderer who has now put his life in God's hand..."

So if you know about Christianity, but you don't accept it then you're bad or something?

I think that heaven includes people of all faiths, but that there's like a Christian Heaven and a Jewish Heaven etc. and not just one heaven.

^ Just another Christian who wants to be politically correct.

Christianity was founded by political incorrectness. All of the Jewish leaders were ****ed off at Jesus and it is no surprise that they wanted to get him when they could. If you don't like the Christian faith, that's too bad. You'll just have to live with it.

"If you don't like the Christian faith, that's too bad. You'll just have to live with it."

I don't get this. Can you elaborate?

There are a number of Atheists and theistic Satanists who want to destroy Christianity. I would just like to tell them that Christianity has been around for 2,000 and will be here to stay. They might as well do something useful in their lives.

I didn't say I didn't like the Christian faith. I was just saying it seemed that he said as if only those who accept Jesus if they know about him go to Heaven. What about those of other faiths?

sciencenerd, he wasn't referring to you. He was talking about atheists who jump at every opportunity to put religion down.

I think that when the Bible says "The only way to Heaven is through Me (Jesus)," it means that we should follow Him in the sense that we act as He did (i.e. with love and mercy); not necessarily believe in Him.

Morality is pretty much the foundation of all modern major religions.

I'm an atheist. My parents are, too. My mom actually took me to a church when I was younger, and I hated it. Religion and God are a crock of ********, if you ask me.

I've realized that I know the secret to life, and I proved definitively whether there is or is not a god. I just don't feel like sharing.

My parents are Sikh, I hate everything they do, other than their free food to anyone who visits the temple. The largest Sikh temple feeds a ridiculous amount of people, much over 1,000 every day for free. I can't find the article, but it was either the WSJ or NYT that talked about it.

As of late, I've had a hard time coping with the possibility that there is nothing truly pure and that no one really knows much about anything in this vast universe except that we die. Plus, it really disgusts me how, even as the most intelligent known life forms, we get caught up in petty trivialities (racism comes to mind). Viewing our society from an external standpoint, I just feel as if we are not that advanced as far character and morality go. So, I guess I have a vague conception of a higher power and "karma".

I think I actually believe what you said, Shore. That makes sense, and I guess being an atheist and rejecting God is a "thought" sin so you would be right...I never really looked at it that way.

lol@jman...

i just dont like how (some) people use thier religion to promote their own political agendas.....and start wars...

im christian
to me its kinda important but in some respects it isnt
w/e i just kinda go with the flow

The fact is that no one can ever know who's going to get into heaven and who isn't....because no one's ever come back to tell us about it.

Of course I believe that I have the right religion...anyone who tells you otherwise is in their faith for the wrong reasons (or just hasn't settled on one particular faith, or lackthereof). But I don't put other religions down, I don't shove my own religion down other people's throats, and I try really hard not to judge people just because they don't live the way I think people should.

Liist, what's your view on homosexuality in the Bible? And what's your church's reactions to it?

My post seemed abrasive so if thats the case I'm sorry but its just my opinion. All of your opinions are as valid as mine obviously so sorry if it seems I'm doing the whole stereotypical Christian snobbery thing.

I'm just trying to emphasize there is a major misconception with Christianity. Christianity is NOT about you as a person or your deeds but whether you believe in Jesus. Even the Pope cannot get into Heaven on his own accord but only through Jesus. People get put off by a lot of these laws of Christianity but there's a couple of things about them -

1) First of all a lot of these laws are benefical to you/coincide with the federal laws you must uphold.
2) Everyone including the Pope breaks these laws and its OK. Because God will always love us as long as we try not to intentionally break these laws and recognize Him and Jesus.
3) You will STILL go to heaven if you believe in sex before marriage and Jesus simultaneously. God is our Father. He'd much rather you disagree with Him on one aspect and 'stay with Him' (vague but you ought to get it) rather then break off from him because you believe in sex before marriage.

I hope that makes sense and once again I stress this is just my view and I'm not trying to bible bash. Its just it is the topic and I think its my obligation to correct some statements that I believe do not represent Christianity. Sorry but I just feel I have to at times...Who knows if me or Coffee or HisGraceFillsUs or anyone helps someone else understand Christianity better, it'll be worth it.

But I agree with HisGraceFillsUs in that we have no idea of knowing who'll enter Heaven as God is so much more complex and intricate then we can possibly understand so all my views about this is personally my interpretation of the Bible and sermons etc.

My church is a very nice and not legalistic. It mainly connects the Chinese community in Jacksonville.

I'd say most of our youth group is pretty secular. I have never said any of my views on homosexuality outside of CC actually. I have mentioned the overpopulation aspect but no one took me seriously so I kept my mouth shut.

Thanks for clarifying AeroEningeer3141.

Oh hang on, you're not gay? Sorry but I thought you were....
