<p>quite important. Can’t say absolutely, as there may be a tiny number who had zero, but med schools know that total capacity to train new doctors is limited. They want people who not only will succeed as doctors but that will not lose interest, wasting the spot that otherwise could have trained a new doctor. Thus, they look at volunteer work as evidence that you know what the life and job will really be like and still are willing. Their fear is that someone will find they don’t like talking with sick people or hate the clinical/hospital/office environment. </p>
