How Important Is Your GPA Really?

"Not for top schools."

Well then I dunno, your theory might be wrong because I know I guy who got into BC with a 1700.

Everyone knows that "one person" who got in with low stats, but 95% of applicants should not be counting on that.

No, of course not, but I also think essays are extremely important and perhaps the most important because they can elevate someone above their mediocre numbers.

Also, the girl who wrote his essay is simply a fabulous writer. Not kidding. She could move the most hardened man to tears with her words.

Sorry to break it to ya, but BC isn't a top college. Can we drop this petty argument? Thx. Bump

Are you serious? What's your definition of top college? "US News Top 33"? Even if you go by USN, BC is 34. Its average SATs range up to 700 per section and it's got an admit rate of 29%. Get off your high horse and stop being so prestige-conscious.

Woah, ok. In my definition, "top" colleges are (in general) USN top 20. I'm sure many would extend beyond that range, but the top 20 are guaranteed to give applicants a tough time getting in and have tough SAT/GPA prerequisites that can't be altered by a strong essay...

I think of BC as top 25 schools but not top school that most CC'ers are vying for. I know someone who got in to BC with 1200+/1600. Her dad told me she picked UCSD( because of money ) eventhough he said it would not be a problem. I think she would belongs to the URM category, her dad is Hispanic.

Is this guy you know a URM? a legacy? a star of something?
