How influencial is a coach?

I am very interested in a particular Division III school. I am reasonably well qualified, but it is a highly selective school, so nothing is certain.
The coach for my sport says he will talk to admissions for me, but warned that he doesn't have all that much influence there.

It seems to me that if I am in that great crowd of qualified applicants that will get in if someone in admissions finds their application interesting, then a request from a coach ought to be enough to swing it; but what do I know.

Of course I am assuming he is actually going to do it, rather than just being polite. I might well be his best freshman next year, but it is a minor sport.

What do you think?

Well having a coach vouch for you can only help your application. Would that make up for a 1500 sat (out of 2400) at an ivy? Definitely not. But because you say you have the qualifications then the coach’s input can only help you.

toller, post your question over on the Athletic Recruits part of CC- include the sport, if you wish, since there are people with good, specific information if you can give a little bit more of your picture.
