How involved can you get with the school by being a BFA MT major?

Hey hey HEY! my name is Natalie and I am about to get ready for auditions in a month! WOOT! I’m excited especially because Ithaca is one of my top choices, and getting would be the most gratifying and amazing thing ever! So I am working really hard! :)

Anyway, aside from my little intro, I just have a huge question which is a great factor for me! Is it possible to get involved in extracurricular activities with the demanding schedule of pursuing a BFA? Like are you able to join a few clubs as well as balancing your curriculum? I ask this because I’ve heard of many things along the way that MT students’ days are completely filled where that’s all they do! I definitely LOVE having much of my time dedicated to MT, since it is my passion! However, i love meeting new people and would love to join a few things at the school! As well, one of the reasons why I love Ithaca is because of having both the college experience AND conservatory style training! So I just want to hear other MT experience with getting involved with the school as well as doing musical theater!

Thank you guys so much in advanced! :)

I don’t attend Ithaca but it is one of my top choices as well! One of my friends is a freshmen MT there though, and he told me - as most of us already know - that the BFA MT there takes up most of your time. He says people do find time to party (ha, not in the picture for me!) but mostly, because of the conservatory training, you are dedicating your days to your performing endeavors and not much else. I’m sure that you can find a way to fit in other things though, for sure. I know that when I head off to college somewhere in the fall, I’ll be looking for a Christian group on campus to get involved with as well as all the MT stuff.

Anyways, enough rambling from me. Long story short, my friend says the training at Ithaca will suck most of your time away, but if you have excellent time management, I’m sure you can find a way to squeeze one or two other things in there.

Break a leg in your auditions and everything! Maybe we’ll both end up at Ithaca, who knows? :)
