How is Brown engineering?

Yes I participated in the asian championship last march and won some national championships.I play Foil. But I don’t think I want to be part of the Brown team because I prefer to concentrate on my studies. So i haven’t reached out for the fencing coach or filled out the questionnaire. But will it improve my chances of getting accepted if I do so? And can I drop out fencing while I am there if I decide to enrol the team after all? @arwarw‌
Thanks

Start flagging if people are messing around on large scale.

Yes it has the possibility to make a big difference for admission. I don’t know too much about sports recruiting. I would assume you make some commitment or it would be bad form, but I doubt you have to continue the entire time. I know my relative played football at Princeton for only one year because doing engineering and the program was too tough.

@lebanesekid‌ If your better than Brown’s other foil recruits and/or current foilist you could potentially be a recruited athlete. I’m guessing the Brown coach has already chosen recruits for this year’s admissions cycle, but not for next year. Are you not talking to your current coach about college recruiting?

It would, however, be poor form and bad character to use a coaches limited recruiting spot and then quit on him or her. It may reflect badly on your current club and coach. It’s a small community.

@sherpa‌ and @Epeemom‌ are great resources here to learn about USA college fencing and recruiting.
