If you are majoring in grapic design, how do you like the program and the instructors? Are you able to get your classes when you need them? How thorough is the curriculum? If you have any experience with job placement, how good is it at Wash U?

Taxguy, do you have a student interested in Wash U?

Lizschup, yes I do. She is interested in graphic and New Media type of design, sort of like a digital design program with graphics, sound and video.

Where else is she looking?

My son is at Wash U and art direction and graphic design was my profession before leaving it to stay home with kids. I also took a couple of art classes there one summer so that I could graduate on time. The classes were so much better than the college I attended. But that was 30 years ago and much has changed. There is a new art building in the works as you probably know.

I noticed you visited Wash U. from reading another thread. What did your daughter think of it?

LIzschup, we are also looking at RISD, Carnegie Mellon, RIT, Syracuse, Towson University ( which is our local state university that has an arts and design program) and maybe Pratt (although my daughter doesn't want a stand alone art school).

Her interests are broader than just graphic design. She got hooked on the new program, New Media Design, which is sometimes called Digital Media. She wants to do something with graphics plus sound plus video/annimation. This seems to be the trend.

I saw Wash U, but she didn't. I liked the school very much. I don't know how good the art and design program is though. It sort of reminds me of a "better looking" and more liberal arts version of Carnegie Mellon. My only problems are that it is far away from us in Maryland, and I don't know how good the design program is, and whether my daughter can take a bunch of digital design courses.

Taxguy, if your daughter becomes more serious about Wash U , just send me a personal message and I'll try to find someone to answer your questions. I know there is an art major in my son's singing group.

I think it was Kjofkw who had a son that ended up at Carnegie Mellon. They were looking at Wash U too. She might be a good resource. And if I remember correctly Kjofkw is also looking for design and graphics for her daughter.

Thanks for the heads-up. I will send you a personal message if she really gets serious about it. Although it is hard to get serious about Wash U if I know little about their graphic/digital design offerings.
