I am looking to major in Biology to pursue a career in forensics though I am skeptical that I will be able to handle what comes along with majoring in biology. Any information such as what classes are included, which classes are hardest/easiest, and what types of dissections are done in the classes would be great! Also an added bonus if anyone is also pursuing a job in forensics and if they had any tips.
So many worm dissections and drawing worms from microscope slides in bio 2…
The required courses will be found on department websites and can vary based on whether you’re concentrating in a specific area. Difficulty of classes varies from professor to professor, but the ability to memorize large amounts of information certainly comes in handy for a bio major.
Dissections… if I remember correctly, we dissected worms and fetal pigs. Might’ve been a frog in there, too. In the course, I mean, not inside the pig.
We did a goat brain dissection in bio 1, which I remember being disappointed by. I was a neuroscience major and had done brain dissection in high school psychology, but none of the people in charge of intro bio knew much of anything about mammalian brains (they were worm people). So we only had to be able to identify a few major structures, many of which they seemed to have picked at random and had no functional significance. But I digress…
We also had a lobster dissection, because Boston.
