What are some interesting classes to take?
What was the classroom environment like?
Any tips on professors to try to get?

Any course taught by Tim Burke. *Images of Africa *is an interesting course with a challenging fun main assignment, but almost anything he teaches will be rigorous and thought-provoking.

My '07 grad says that it’s good. He particularly liked professors Pieter Judson and Lillian Li.
He also felt that Professor Bob DuPlessis was brilliant, but didn’t particularly care for the curriculum he taught. (You may feel differently about that, it just wasn’t my son’s “cup of tea.”)

Both S '09 and D '12 chose History as their major, after much shopping around, based on the strong pull of the intellectual and personal traits of the faculty. Burke and Judsen are very well respected as professors and people, as is Bruce Dorsey, whose Honors seminar on Early America and the Atlantic World is supposdly phenomenal and a ton of work You realy can’t go wrong with the History Dept at SWAT. I’ve never heard a negative thing about any of the courses or professors.

I don’t think that Prof. Marjorie Murphy is everone’s cup of tea…

S '08 was a history minor. The only prof he didn’t like was Murphy, but he really enjoyed the honors seminar he took with Judson.

People tend to either love or hate prof. Murphy. I think she’s much better in a small seminar format than in big classes, and I’ve loved the seminars I’ve had with her.

Judson and Minkin, a new and amazing prof, are my personal faves in the history department.

Judson and Burke are both fantastic. I was a history minor (Honors) and didn’t take classes with anyone but them. And count myself lucky for the opportunity.

Haven’t taken anything in History yet, but I’ve also heard love/hate things about Prof. Lillian Li.
