How is the social life at Wellesley?

<p>Im currently a freshman in a college in downtown chicago. I am originally from Boston (i actually am from two towns away from wellesley). I hate my current school. Its way too big (about 10,000 undergrads), and the student body is just too much of a mix of people. I also feel that people here just arent genuine and are very immature. Its not a friendly atmosphere at all. Especially since I live right in downtown and not on the main campus, it is quite isolating.</p>

<p>I really want to transfer for to wellesley, for a variety of reasons. I feel like I fit the definition of a wellesley woman, and I also really just want to be back in MA. When I visted wellesley before, the students seemed so nice, and many of them very much like myself. Also, what really draws me to wellesley most importantly, is its stong political science and IR program with the Albright Institute. I am very very involved in international affairs and political advocacy for civilian protection against human rights violations (its what I do for a job which is literally a 60 hour a week job on top of my college classes, and is based in Washington DC, so I have to travel there on business trips every other month)</p>

<p>I just feel wellesley will be so right for me. I also really want to join the wellesley-brandeis orchestra if I attended there. (I played violin since I was 8, and although i am not in orchestra in college---they dont allow people outside the music school to be in the orchestra---i was in three orchestras in high school for all four years)</p>

<p>But anyways, how is the social life at Wellesley? Do people mostly keep to themselves? Are people very friendly in general? Is it easy to make friends? How is it for transfers? (I will be applying in November for January admission when I am a sophomore)</p>

<p>If you thought people were friendly when you visited, then yes Wellesley people are friendly (a lot of people from outside NE seem to think that MA folks are cold and evil because they don’t say hi to every person the sidewalk). </p>

<p>I assume your current college isn’t a total cakewalk, but a 60-hour per week job on top of a full course load isn’t feasible at Wellesley (or most colleges for that matter). It also renders the social life question moot.</p>

<p>I suggest that if you want to apply, you go ahead and do it. Nothing anyone here says is going to make a difference anyway. Just do it.</p>
