How is the Warner School of Education/GRADE

Hello,

I was selected as a finalist for the Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education program (GRADE). I plan on becoming a teacher at the high school or preferably university level after college and I'm still looking at my graduate school options.

What do any of you know about the Warner School? What is its reputation amongst educational institutions? Does anyone have knowledge on their TESOL or foreign language education programs?

Thanks!

Henry,

Congrats on being nominated as a finalist for GRADE! For more information on the program, check out this webpage: [University of Rochester : College Admissions](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/CAPs/GRADE/)

The key is that finalists who are selected into the GRADE program (you will be notified a few weeks after your on-campus interview) will receive the Steven Harrison Scholarship (1/3 of tuition) for all five years.

I actually just entered the Warner School myself (school counseling). I’m taking a class called “Crisis Management and Disaster Mental Health”, which is mostly discussion / scenario-based. My friends who went through Warner’s teaching program all come out saying one thing: “You’ll never forget how to make a lesson plan.” The internship / shadowing component of the program allows you to gain real-world teaching experience almost immediately.

Construction on the new Warner School of Education building is half-way complete, so you’ll be spending your Warner year in one of the newest campus buildings.

If you have specific Warner-related questions, I would advise you to contact them directly: admissions@warner.rochester.edu/email 275-3950

Wait - did dealing with us drive you to take this course? ;)

haha, I appreciate the humor!

Hello,
Could you talk about the interview process for GRADE finalists? About how many students are accepted into the grade program?
Thanks!

Monkey234,

The GRADE interviews will be conducted by an Admissions Counselor and a Warner School of Education staff member / professor. There is no set quota for the # of finalists that get accepted into the GRADE program. Your acceptance essentially depends upon the quality of your interview. We want to make sure that we accept students who have a clear passion for teaching / counseling.

I hope that helps!

Tyler

Funny, PN! Haha.

I was just wondering how many people applied to the program in the first place, also how do you indicate if you want to study counseling or education

I’m not sure of the total number of Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education (GRADE) applicants… My best guess is somewhere between 50-60 students.

You can indicate your interest in counseling / teaching during the GRADE interview. I believe that the counseling track requires 2 years at Warner while the teaching track requires only 1 year at Warner. (After your 4 years as a UR undergraduate.)
