How is this for 12th grade schedule?

English 12, *Statistics (maybe AP), *World History, Environmental Science, *IT Fundamentals, *CompSci Internship, Web Technologies, and Python Programming.

required for graduation (IT Fundamentals & CS Internship are required for CTE graduation. CS Internship will also count for senior project.)

honors World History has dual credit option with community college

I’m still trying to decided between regular and AP statistics. Anyone know what the AP coursework is like? How does it compare to regular statistics class. I probably won’t take the AP exam because this class also has a dual credit option with a community college.

I would say take the AP over the dual credit. A good score on the AP exam is MUCH more likely to transfer than a community college credit. If you really care about the credit and don’t plan on attending that CC, it’s probably in your best interest to do the AP exam.

AP Stats is not really a difficult class. It covers topics more in-depth than regular statistics and is more calculator-intensive. It is definitely manageable with your schedule and is considering a “lighter” AP course.

AP statistics emulates a one semester introductory statistics course without calculus. Usually, colleges have these courses for students to fulfill quantitative reasoning requirements, so they should not be that hard for students who are decent in math.

If you will be a CS or business/IT major, you will likely have to take statistics in college; in some cases, a calculus-based statistics course will be required.

What math, foreign language, sciences, and art have you previously completed?

I have completed Geometry and Algebra 2. I’m taking Precalculus now. I’ve done two years of Spanish. I’ve completed Physical Science and Biology, and I’m taking Physics now.

Interestingly, we had the opposite experience. My D’s college took almost all of her DE credits - CC DE courses actually have a higher acceptance rate than U. Of Pittsburgh DE classes from our HS. A C- is all that’s needed. I don’t think anyone didn’t get a C- in any of her DE classes, probably 95% A/B.

APs required a 4 or 5, pretty standard for all the schools we looked at, and less than a third of AP Stats exams received a 4 or 5 grade last year.

Some colleges may prefer to see chemistry as well as biology and physics for your sciences, and may prefer to see level 3 or 4 of a foreign language over level 2. Some also may want to see some visual or performing art.

If you are completing precalculus in 11th grade, you are a year ahead in math. Since CS and business/IT majors require calculus, why not take calculus in 12th grade?

How are you doing in math?
If you are getting a B+ or higher in precalculus, see if you can take calculus.
Take level3 in a foreign language (usually expected at selective 4-year colleges) and chemistry.
