How is this Preliminary Award Notification?

Hello!

My total gift aid is $19,190 and my total net cost is $9,400.

For net cost it gives me options to meet them:

Total Student's Share = $9,100
Federal Work-Study $2,800
Perkins/University Loan + $800
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan + $3,500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan + $2,000

Total Parent's Share = $300
Federal Direct PLUS Loan for Parents + $300

My EFC is 0. I know it is foolish to expect to go to college for free but is this an okay package? Are the loans are bit on the heavy side? I would rather opt for more work-study.

Tell me what you think as maturely as possible please.

Considering economy in California this is a good packet. The perkins loan and sub federal loan have low interest rates. My financial aid did not even have sub loans of any kind and were only for $5500

Total Student’s Share = $9,100
Federal Work-Study $2,800
Perkins/University Loan + $800
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan + $3,500
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan + $2,000

Total Parent’s Share = $300
Federal Direct PLUS Loan for Parents + $300

hmm, that does seem interesting. my net cost is about $12,000, but it falls about 50/50 on me and my parents. I didn’t even have work-study listed on my notification, just two loans for me and one for my parents :(

I don’t know what the protocol for more work-study is/if there is any, but I would try for that. My loans are about the same, with the subsidized and unsubsidized being about $3,200 each. Or if you think you’ll be able to pay them off relatively quickly after school, then they might be okay, but bottom line in my opinion is that they’re less than desirable. Congrats on getting into UCSD though!

@33dmjjm I’m not well versed in the differences between loan types but your point about “considering the economy in California” is very well taken. Thank you!

@alexcoconuts Did you check the option for work-study on your FAFSA? I’m not too sure if the option for more is possible… I’m a total noobie, hehe. Thank you and congratulations on your acceptance as well!

I did, because I got $1,500 in work-study from UCLA. maybe UCSD didn’t have enough spots, or my EFC was too high for some type of cutoff. it’s all good though :)

why is my EFC $1?? what is it anyways, because my net cost is $9,401

where did you find all this financial info?! i know my calgrant stuff, but this is different!

nevermind, i found it!

im not even kidding. i have to pay full cost. 51g’s. how much do your parents make? seriously. where do u guys live
