Seems to be more Grad oriented? Recruiting, dual majors, etc?
thanks

WOW

They must have done away with the program and required all CS grads to an oath of silence!

dannyandelyse,

I’m not sure if we have many current students lurking on these forums at this time, but I’m happy to provide you with some information…

You can learn a lot about the undergraduate program here: [Undergraduate Program | University of Rochester Computer Science](http://www.cs.rochester.edu/education/undergraduate/)

More importantly, I would suggest that you give Marty Guenther a call if you’re looking for specific information. Marty is tremendously helpful, and as the Undergraduate Coordinator for the Comp Sci Department, she can provide a lot of insight to the undergrad experience.

Here’s the contact information: [People | Staff | University of Rochester Computer Science](Staff : People : Department of Computer Science : University of Rochester)

Hopefully that helps!

Tyler

Thank you
Will do
Still would like to hear from another student or alumni .

Freshman CS major here. Undergrad BS program is extremely rigorous and theoretical, everyone is always surprised at the depth of knowledge and understanding we have. The CS professors’ teaching skills range from ok to terrible so expect to do alot of learning outside of lecture though.

I like to call us “the best CS program that no one has heard of.” The major exception to our relative anonymity is Google, who came to campus literally 6 times last semester. A few other companies have come too. Other than that on-campus recruiting is pretty lackluster, but what do you expect from a school in upstate NY that graduates 40 majors a year. Research for undergrads is very easy to come by, I got one as a 2nd semester freshman with 1 prior CS class by sending one email and know many others with a similar experience. From what I understand, the graduate program has been making quiet a name for itself in academia and research labs in recent years.

Double majoring is quite common. I’m doing it (technically dual degree BS/BA) and will still have elective classes to spare without overloading at all.

Let me know if theres anything else you want to know.

Thank you sir.
Was hoping job recruitment was a bit stronger.

I’m torn between UIUC and UR for CS. While UIUC is much better known for CS, I personally like U of R more after visiting both campuses. If I plan on going to get an MS for CS, should I just pick UR if I like it here more?

^^^ Does any financial difference between the two schools matter? If not, I’d choose the school you like. If so, I’d probably consider it a factor.

URHopeful, you tell us that the professors’ teaching skills are “ok to terrible.” So what are the aspects of CS at U of R that make it “the best CS program that no one has heard of?” You mention that research is readily available to undergrads. What else?

Thanks for sharing your experience.
