I graduated from Kent State University in May with my degree in Justice Studies, I had a 3.4 GPA. I worked as an intern with Planned Parenthood for a summer, a clerk of courts office for a summer, The Obama Campaign for 4 months, and in a court house for 3 months, and I was an officer in my Criminal Justice club.

I am going for my MSW with a focus in direct practice/clinical and I am applying to:

University of Pittsburgh

University of Kentucky

The Ohio State University

Case Western Reserve University

I think my essay is strong, I have strong letters of recommendation but I am worried. My top choice is OSU and then Kentucky. Case is a great school but so incredibly expensive and Pitt is just as expensive. Being an Ohio resident OSU is my top choice for the price and quality of school. What are my chances

I go to OSU for undergrad and I’ve been learning a little bit about what it takes to get accepted as a grad student (I’ve been working with my department’s grad committee to get my application materials ready for other schools). I would say with your experience and strong letters and SOP, you probably have a good chance. Your GRE scores will also be taken into consideration.

But no one can tell you what your chances are for sure! There are so many other factors that you just can’t control. You just have to apply and find out. Good luck!

I’ve applied to grad school as well in order to pursue my MSW. My BS is in criminal justice and I too finished with a 3.4 GPA. Good luck! Update us on the outcome

Quick question (devil’s advocate): I work daily with MSW’s and they are struggling to pay back their student loans. They do great work, but are on the bottom of our pay scale.
(They ask me about my field and how many more years it would take if they changed occupations). We get hundreds of faxed resumes from MSW’s who wish to work with our agency. Is there something I am missing about the forecast for employment and pay? How will you pay for grad school?
