How long does Penn State take to get back to me?

I submitted my application to Penn State on October 28, and their priority deadline is November 30. How long will it take for them to get back to me on my admission decision?

The vast majority of students will not hear back until after the Christmas holiday. Unless you have super high stats, in which case, you may hear earlier. If you look at the acceptance threads from the previous year you can get an idea of when a lot of people started hearing. I believe there was a wave in early December, and then the vast majority after that were after Christmas. My D waited 5 months, which although it was difficult, I found was not all that uncommon.

//bangs head on desk… :wink:

Good luck, greenbutton! I’m a Nittany Lion - hope you get to join us. :slight_smile:

@greenbutton. Yes; I hope you get in as well. Are you enjoying your senior year?

no, no, I’m the parent of a Penn State grad and a current upperclassman. Banging my head becasue we answer this question over and over and over again.JLH keeps furnishing the same awesome answer each time, but it doesn’t seem to help!

good luck to everyone, and here’s to January!

Posted this in the 2020 decision thread. But, felts it would be important here…

Was on the phone with someone from Admissions on an unrelated matter. We started chatting about the recent acceptances. We laughed since she said their is no rhyme or reason to acceptances. But, she did say that they wait until Novemeber 30 (last day of early decision) before they do the bulk of decisions. They want to see the complete pool of those applying before they make a decision. Only those top applicants who they know would get in get decisions now.

@greenbutton. I was joking. The “smiley faces” don’t show up on here for some reason.

@greenbutton thank you for saying what I have been thinking for weeks! The decision thread for 2020 is also more of a parent’s forum…good luck to all…waiting in our household as well! :smiley:

@THONMOMPSU The decision thread last year started out with a lot of parents asking questions…myself included. Lots of us are on were gathering answers while our kids were not. But, as acceptances and denials come in you will see tons of students posting their responses and it will evolve from less of a discussion post to mostly acceptance and denial posts.

@jlhpsu good to know! Thanks for the information!

@jlhpsu I don’t remember reading a lot of denials in last years thread. I assume if someone didn’t get in…they didn’t want to keep thinking about it and posting it here. But, last years thread was mighty long and I could be wrong. :slight_smile:

@zipbags Oh no, there were denials. Specifically for main campus. Lots of people who were hoping for main and were deferred to a branch campus. There were some heartbreaking outright denials from people who didn’t put a commonwealth campus as second choice as well. Now, there weren’t as many denials as acceptances because I do think you are right - denials more of than not, don’t post. But they were there…especially from the regulars who had posted for months. We were all in the same boat and waiting to hear about others acceptances!

@greenbutton Oops, sorry! For some reason I thought you were the OP!

Last year my son applied last week of October and got a yes the last week of January!! It was a long wait!

are international applicants required to send official transcripts along with the application? It isn’t necessary for US citizens, I believe.
