How long is the average college visit?

I have posted this before, but I really think it is important, particularly when you are trying to visit two schools in one day and are on a tight schedule.

Before you go on your trip, be sure to look up the address of the admissions office of each school you will be visiting on that school's web site. Take the address and print a map off of Mapquest or similar web site.
When you arrive in a strange city, you don't want to waste time searching for the admissions office. Many are easy to find and are well "signed." Others aren't. Remember, parking is often a problem and you don't want to be searching around. Know where you are going!

it is possible to do more than 1 school/day if they are close and it is necessary, but i would not recommend it. at almost all the schools i visited along with a tour and information session i did something related to engineering (engineering tour, engineering info session) and i went to a class at the colleges i visited during the school year. i highly recommend sitting in on a class when visiting a school, and learning more about specific academic programs while you are there. the more you learn on the visit, the more you'll know if you want to go to the school or not.

You definitely need to reserve a tour in advance for NYU, as their tours fill up.
We did 4 college visits in 2 days in the Boston area, and it was fine. But my D was a sophomore then. If you are a senior, and have already picked schools to apply to, it may be a better move to take your time with these selected schools, so that when 6 acceptances come in, you are not visiting 6 schools again.
