So, I will be visiting colleges on the East Coast in October, but I have a limited amount of time to visit schools (7 days tops, 2 being weekend days) because it's a hassle to miss a bunch of school, and it costs quite a bit to travel from the Midwest.

I guess my question is, is it feasible to visit two colleges in one day? I have 7 schools in mind, but that means I'll need to visit 2 schools in one day for 2 days. Is it better to just pick a few that I'm most interested in?

visit your top choices if you have to choose! never attend a school without seeing it! it is like marrying somebody on a first date ( a blind date at that)

Do 2 a day. It is easier to compare school’s when you do 2 at a time. I did this with GW University and American University. Ended up loving American. Especially when you compare student ambassador friendliness. Good luck! What do you plan to see?

do a mapquest to figure out driving time between schools. it took longer than we thought to get between a lot of schools on my list. when you include driving time, its hard to do two in a day - unless they are really close by.

According to Google Maps, a lot of the colleges in MA are just about right next to each other. I don’t think the drives will be a problem, but I guess I’m just more worried about getting burned out, and hating all the colleges I visit later on in the week.

Thanks for the input! I’m super excited to be finally visiting schools instead of reading about them.

D and I took two trips this summer. On one trip we toured 5 schools in 4 days. On the other trip we toured 5 schools in 3 days and did a walk around at a sixth school (ended up with 3 that day). Just do your best to get a sense of each, how they are alike or different, etc. At least it’s something, even if it does all start to run together. Hopefully later after acceptances, you will narrow down to 2 or 3 and can maybe do some overnights.

Does anyone know of a good way to write notes about colleges? I’ve found the College Board’s Campus Visit Score Card, but I’m wondering if there are any better ones out there.

We each just scribbled notes down during the visit. Back at the hotel, my son just typed our thoughts into a Word file. He sometimes had a separate paragraph for each person’s opinions since we didn’t always agree.

Tip: The details he recorded came in handy when he was writing supplemental application essays, especially the generic “Why do you want to come here?” question. He had very specific examples of things he saw and people he talked to that impressed him.

It really is worth investing the time in the notes. They start to all blend together in your head especially after a few weeks have passed!

Also, we only tried doing two colleges in one day and we regretted it. I think we shortchanged both schools and therefore didn’t get a good feel for them.
